The infrastructures were mainly left by Qing Dynasty when Japanese troops occupied the place in 1895.
In 1904, the official Jeng ZooLane, along with other 22 local gentlemen, raised funds to build the new government hall.
the building was not officially in use until the beam raising ceremony on November 26,
1927. In 1932, the entrance hall was expanded.
When the Japanese began their colonization, Hsinchu was known as Shinchiku,
which was ruled by the Shinchiku Prefecture.
In
1982, the Hsinchu county government moved to Zhubei and Hsinchu City was
ruled directly by Taiwan Province, and the building has been used as the City Hall
until today.
